Rose Croix Pittman Pevey

Rose Croix Pittman Pevey went home to be with her Lord on June 25, 2024. Her life expressed and continued a legacy of love of family and faith, as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. A resident of Monticello at her death, Rose proudly traced her family's roots through her paternal grandparents, William Emerson (Dick) and Mollie Pittman, who came from south Indiana as some of Arkansas County's first rice farmers, bringing with them traditions of hard work and faith. These traditions were manifested in the membership of both Dick and his father Levi in the Masonic Lodge. Dick was a 32nd degree Mason, as was Floyd, Rose's father, and also her brother Floyd Lee (Pete). Rose's maternal grandparents were Lucious ''Lawrence'' Hall, III and Sarah Ellen Hays Hall, from the Hallsville community near DeVall's Bluff, and later of Stuttgart.

Born and raised in Arkansas County, her Masonic heritage was evidenced by her very name, Rose Croix, which was given to her by members of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas, who recorded her birth in Little Rock on May 11, 1943. She continued these family traditions when she was received into the Order of the Eastern Star at age 18. The Masonic Lodge of DeWitt later bestowed upon her the Rose Croix Apron. Her Masonic journey included service as the Mother Advisor of the DeWitt Chapter of Rainbow Girls and also the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Assembly 432. Through her work, she was a steady and supportive leader who helped many young women throughout her life.

As an active member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church, Rose grew into her faith, and proudly taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. Her civic leadership continued in her service as president of the DeWitt Jaycettes, and the Pine Bluff Jaycettes. Rose is preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd Lee and Dena Pauline Pittman, her beloved brother, Floyd Lee (Pete) Pittman, Jr., and her cherished youngest grandson, Justin Lea. She was also predeceased by half-siblings Howard Lee (Buck) Pittman, Margaret ''Poodle'' Vaughn, Zelma Allen, and Lorraine Wilson.

Rose is survived by son Thomas Scott Pevey (Rosemary) and daughter Sonia Pevey Potter, all of Monticello, three grandchildren, Dena Stanley, Robert Lea, and Sarah Pevey, and seven great-grandchildren, Jordyn Stanley, Emily Stanley, Ryan Stanley, Brandon Lea, Nicholas Stanley, Liam Lea and Brantley Lea.

Special thanks to family and friends, including Tami Pevey, Dr. Tim Simon, and the hospice professionals who took such beautiful care of Rose in her final days.

A memorial service will be held for Rose Croix Pittman Pevey on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Stephenson/Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service in Campground Cemetery in Monticello. A reception will follow the graveside services at Campground United Methodist Church.
