Stuttgart City Council Meets
The Stuttgart City Council met Tuesday, April 21 with a short agenda. After the approval of previous minutes, paying of the bills and approving departmental reports, they moved on to the agenda.
The Buerkle St. Project was the first item on the agenda. Caleb Mudford of the A.L. Franken Engineering firm spoke to the council regarding the project. This phase will be from Michigan and Buerkle to over the railroad tracks at 5th and Buerkle. It includes some work on Porter St. and on Prairie St. The cost of the project is estimated at just over 1.9 million dollars. A motion was made to put the project out for bids. It passed unanimously.
City Attorney Michelle Jacobs read Ordinance 2039 which authorizes the purchase of 2026 Riser pipe replacement for Stuttgart Municipal Water Works. This is the pipe which takes water in and out of the water tank. Currently, the pipe is unusable. The council approved reading the ordinance by title only on the 2nd and 3rd readings. They added an emergency clause so that this could get taken care of immediately and hopefully they can have it replaced by June. The ordinance passed unanimously.
Mayor Norma Strabala announced the transfer station would be open on Saturday, April 25 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.. The transfer station is located at 1700 E. 2nd St. The landfill will also be open on Saturday until noon.
Strabala also announced that Celebrate Recovery would be holding a block party from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 1111 N. Main on Saturday, April 25.
With no more business before the council they adjourned.
A healthy Arkansas County requires great community news.
