Diamond Birds Win Big over Pine Bluff
Game 1 Monday, March 16
Stuttgart- 21 Pine Bluff 2
Despite frigid temperatures, the Ricebirds defeated the Zebras 21-2 in Pine Bluff.
Freshman Jay Griffin was dominant on the mound as he rung up 10 strikeouts while allowing two hits, four walks, and two runs over 4 innings.
Beau Barnes and Brayden Minor-Covington each doubled while Kiptyn Carey and Hudson Caver singled. Harper Feilke and Luke Whittenburg hit sacrifice flies scoring runs. Numerous Ricebirds were hit by pitches or walked, extending the lead. The bench was cleared and all members of the team played.
Game 2 Tuesday, March 17
Stuttgart 3 Woodlawn 4
Stuttgart fell to Woodlawn in extra innings despite out hitting them. Harper Feilke led the Birds with three hits. Seniors Dagan Duncan and Feilke each recorded doubles. Cam Rodgers, Beau Barnes, and Axton McCrea each singled.
Errors hindered both teams but Woodlawn benefited from a ninth inning Ricebird error to secure the win. Pitchers Nathan Spoon, Rodgers and McCrea struck out ten, walked seven while giving up five hits.
Game 3 Thursday, March 19
Stuttgart 0 Maumelle 15
Stuttgart was soundly defeated and mercy ruled by Maumelle thanks in part to the Birds giving up eight hits, numerous walks while committing several unusual errors . Maumelle jumped out in the first inning with a 5 run lead and never looked back.
Kiptyn Carey and Hayden Prine each collected one hit.
The Birds are in action Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the Robinson Spring Break Classic in Little Rock.
