GPDAR Presents Award

by Judi Tarter Jones, GPDAR Media Chair

The Grand Prairie Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met Feb 28 at the Stuttgart Public Library meeting room. The program consisted of recognition of the three DAR American History Essay winners.  Two of the three winners, all from Hazen Elementary, read their essays to the group.  Their prompt was to write as if they had received the chance to meet and interview one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.  These students were each presented with a certificate, a medal, and a monetary gift by Grand Prairie DAR.  This was followed by the presentation of three of the four Grand Prairie DAR Good Citizen Award recipients who also read their essays. The DAR Good Citizen award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Following the reading of their essays, each was presented with a DAR Good Citizen certificate, a pin, and a monetary gift from the chapter.   Finally, four new members were inducted into the Grand Prairie Chapter by Chaplain Linda Owens.
