Ricebirds Dominate Lions

The Stuttgart Ricebirds made the trip to Malvern for a non-conference game against the Malvern Lions. Watching the game, it was obvious that the Birds played like it was a conference game and they came to win! And win they did!

The Ricebirds seem to have really started working as a smooth running machine. Especially the defense. Week after week the defense does their job and does it well. They make the plays, get the sacs and on occasion get the interception or the fumble. They just gel so completely it is a joy watching them take down offensives on any team. Ladadrian Smith, Dagan Duncan, Knox Hillman, Beau Barnes, Orrin Mack are just some of the players that are shining on defense. Let’s not forget about Brilon Hogan and Jordan Minor both had interceptions in this game.

Offense, let’s talk about that Ricebird offense, led by Junior Cain Price, who has really started coming into his own. He has grown as a quarterback and as a scrambler when the pressure is on. Cain made 15 out of 19 completions for 238 yards for four touchdowns. He also had four rushes for 22 yards. Tyquan Hall was 14 for 176 yards. Jeremiah Thomas was six for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Q.T. Johnson was six for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Jaymarrion Hoard was three for 42 yards and one touchdown. In this game, Q.T. Johnson had a 72 yard touchdown run, Tyquan Hall had a 76 yard return for a touchdown

The Ricebirds led at the end of the 1st quarter 14-0. At halftime, the score was 35-14 Ricebirds. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Birds were up 41-14 but they didn’t sit on their laurels. Early in the 4th quarter they scored and went for a 2-point conversion and got it. Score was 49-14 meaning the mercy rule went into effect. The score would be 49-14 at the end.

Coach Josh Price said, “Played pretty well, blocked a punt and forced two turnovers on defense.  QT Johnson, Tyquan Hall, and Cain Price had very good nights on offense.“
