Dawn's Delights
Pondering what I should write about this week, I have read Michael Jones column about his Ellie. While Ellie and Tink never met in person, Tink LOVED Michael (and Caleb) when I worked with him at the Stuttgart Daily Leader 11 years ago. Back when they still printed a newspaper. In fact, there were columns where Michael would write as Ellie and I would write as Tink. They weren’t columns that were meant to do anything but entertain readers. If you ever read those columns, I can bet you laughed at their antics (like major discussions about green frogs), and you might even have thought surely Ellie and Tink had met each other. Alas, they never did.
Michael and I would write with A LOT of silliness thrown in. We actually got fan mail for our pooches. I’m not sure if we should’ve been flattered or insulted. I can this if you didn’t giggle reading them, maybe there is something wrong with YOU.
The columns were for pure entertainment value. If you knew our dogs, and even if you didn’t, they were entertaining. Now, we no longer have either of our dogs, as they have both gone to heaven. Didn’t you ever watch the kid movie, “All Dogs Go to Heaven”? Who knows maybe Ellie and Tink are chasing green frogs in heaven…WAIT!! They have green frogs in heaven? I hope not!
Anyhoo…last week I talked about my Daddy in my column and apparently it touched a readers heart, since I received an email about it. I must admit after receiving the email, I had to go back and re-read the column. I was half-way through it when the tears started. I know, I know, I am a big cry-baby. If you have known me for more than five minutes, you are not surprised by this.
It made me think tho, because about ten years ago, right after I started working at the Stuttgart Daily Leader (back when they still printed the paper daily) I ran into Pat Peacock, who was a mentor to me when I was young. She called me over to where she was and told me, “Dawn, you have found your niche. Don’t ever stop writing.” There have been times when I seriously considered quitting, but I always hear Mrs. Pat talking in my ear and can’t give up because of that.
Until next time…
