ARCO Fun Fest of Summertime Fun
The ARCO Fun Fest which was originally planned for Memorial Day Weekend was held this past Saturday, June 28th at the Arkansas County Fairgrounds. Because of the extremely hot weather, attendance and participation was down somewhat, but a good time was had by all.
The Car Show sponsored by Crow Burlingame began with about 25 cars and several won various awards. Best of Show winner was Eddie Carter; People’s Choice was Robert White;
Best Paint finalist was Will Padgett; Best ATV and Work in Progress was Bubba Nutt; Best
Original Champion was Keith Stricklin; Best 4x4, Mopar, and Interior titleholders were Wendy and Jason Kizzere; Best Ford winner was Lloyd Snyder; Best GM finalist was Eddie Siems; Best Hot Rod winner was Billy Hill; Best OBS placer Harvey Simpson; and Best Square Body Champion was Chris Counce. Timmy Sneed thanked everyone who came out, braved the heat and asked everyone to make an appearance again next year.
Five BBQ teams that have participated for the past three years were in it for the long haul as cooking began at six that morning. The winners included 1st Place-The Bearded Bros; 2nd Place-Lonesome Dove BBQ; and 3rd Place Baker’s BBQ. The Best of Pork Butt was won by the Bearded Bros; and the Best of Chicken winner was Baker’s BBQ
The Fish Fry for Mrs. Patricia Shook was a success as about $3,000 was raised for her cancer battle, and the revenue from last year was used to buy the fish for the cookout.
The Baggo competition was won by Bubba Nutt and Sam Dardenne, and they willingly donated their winnings to Mrs. Shook’s cause.
There was also a water inflatable for the kids, and a few vendors such as Top Knot Gifts and ARCO Hydration inside the building. Jacob Sullivan said the committee will be meeting soon to plan for next year’s event, and a secondary date will be picked in case of compromising circumstances. Looking forward to a great year next year as well.
A healthy Arkansas County requires great community news.
