John Albert Holmes

John Albert Holmes, 73, of DeWitt passed away March 30, 2024. He was born May 8, 1950, in Stuttgart to Robert and Mattie Smith Holmes.

John served as a United States Marine, and following his time as a Marine served and worked in the National Guard until his retirement. He was a member of The American Legion and Unity Missionary Baptist Church. He drove the church bus for many years and picked up lots of kids to make sure they got to church. John liked to be busy. He liked working, walking, and washing cars. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and loved his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Reese and Bobby Holmes; and sister Linda Carlock.

John is survived by his wife Brenda Case Holmes; two daughters Jennifer Jones (Walter) and Carey Fisher (Will); three grandsons Cooper Jones, Abel and Aiden Fisher; brother Roger Holmes; and two sisters Mary Stovesand and Billie Rainey.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on April 4 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with visitation one hour before the funeral. Burial followed in Hockenberry Cemetery. www.essexfuneralhome.com
