Carolyn McGhee Cates

Carolyn McGhee Cates, age 81, passed away on May 5, 2023. Born in DeWitt, Arkansas on April 19, 1942, she was the daughter of the late J. Alfred and Birtie Mae McGhee.

Carolyn loved her many friends, family, and a good laugh. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church since her youth. She enjoyed her employment with Modern Woodman and the many clients she called friends that were made along the way. She loved helping people and will be missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by her children Jason (Amy) Cates of Sewanee, TN, Jill (Steve) Stone of Dallas, TX, Michael P. (Celeste) Davis of New Orleans, LA, Michelle (Mack) Hudspeth of Union City, TN; seven grandchildren Nicholas, Kimberly, Benjamin Cates, Andrew Davis, Madalyn, Franklin, Jacob Hudspeth as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her three brothers, J.D., Aubrey, and Butch McGhee.

She was preceded in death by her former spouse Joseph Cates, two sisters Anna Mae Mulvaney and Edna Bennett. 

Visitation will be Wednesday May 10, 2023, at DeWitt First Assembly of God at 1 with funeral services beginning at 2 pm.  Burial will follow in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens.  www.essexfuneralhome.com
