Cheryl Lynn Morgan Hornbeck

Cheryl Lynn Morgan Hornbeck, 77, of DeWitt passed away March 17, 2023. She was born December 30, 1945, in Biloxi, MS, to Merrill Marvin Morgan and Bonita Faye Minich Morgan.

After her high school graduation, Cheryl attended Baptist School of Nursing and graduated with her RN degree. She married Eugene Hornbeck after she graduated from nursing school, and she stayed home to raise her boys. When they started school, Cheryl went back to work and school herself. She started teaching the LPN classes at Rice-Belt Vocational School in DeWitt and worked in the nursing program at DeWitt through its transition to PCCUA. She completed her Advanced Practice Nursing degree at age 54, and finished her teaching career after teaching 29 years.

In her retirement, Cheryl was an active member of DeWitt First United Methodist Church. She sang in the Chancel Choir and was a Prayer Warrior. She was always willing to bake cookies for vacation Bible school or to fix her homemade rolls for anyone that had recently been sick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Bonita Morgan, and her husband, Eugene Hornbeck.

Cheryl is survived by her sons David and Jimmy Hornbeck both of DeWitt; her grandchildren M.J. Hornbeck and River Goodell (Sarah); great grandson Rhyder Goodell; and chosen grandchildren Ryan and Abby Noblin.

Funeral services were March 20 at First United Methodist Church in DeWitt. Burial followed in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 608 S. Grandview Dr., DeWitt, AR 72042. www.essexfuneralhome.com
