January 25, 2023

Derek Rinauld “Dookie” Mason-Owens passed January 9, 2023. He was born March 10, 1983 in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Dallas Owens, Jr. and Delores Mason. He was preceded in death by grandparents Dallas Sr. and Mrs. Leora Owens and L.V. and Bobbie Bradley.

Dookie attended Stuttgart Public Schools. Shortly after high school, Dookie met and married Angie Hodges, and they relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. To this union, two daughters were born. His girls were the apple of his eye.

Later in life, Dookie married Dallin Harvill.

Dookie worked various jobs, until a severe back injury made it extremely difficult to continue working. Dookie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and being the life of the party. He loved dogs.

Handsome, charismatic, and light in spirit, with a smile that was bright as the sun. No matter how he was feeling or difficult his circumstances, his smile showed resilience even in the face of his adversities. He was equally loved and admired by family, friends, and those who knew him. As one friend affectionately put it, “Dookie was truly a 19th street legend.”

Dookie leaves to carry on his memory, although separated, wife Dallin Harvill; daughters Arionna and Danae Mason; one bonus child Mario Lewis, Jr; beloved mother Delores Mason; father Dallas Owens, Jr.; brothers Jeremy Mason, Edmond Mason, Darren Mason, and Dallas Owens III; sisters Shelly Owens and Monique Owens, Tammie Austin (Shaun), and Eureka Ice; special cousins Brandon Bradley and Vernon Stigger; lifelong friends Anthony Stigger, Rickey Haynes, Jr., Herbert Manuel Jr., and Zachary Hodges; and a myriad of other relatives and friends who mourn his absence.
