Elsie Tressie Cox

Elsie Tressie Cox, 98 of Star City, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Gardner Nursing Center in Star City. She was born February 24, 1924, in O’Kean, AR, to the late John and Bertha Motes Burgess. Elsie was a member of Star City First Assembly of God, where she was a member of the Naomi group. She held several jobs in her many years, including working for an arsenal in California, shoe factory in Dewitt, lunchroom for Dewitt schools, and was a nurses’ aide for Area Agency on Aging. Elsie enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets, repurposing crafts, raising flowers, collecting dolls, loved to travel and stay on the road, and enjoyed the beach.

Preceding her in death were her first husband of 33 years, Jack Brandon; her second husband of 11 years, S.C. Cox; daughter, Lucy Joyce Lampkin; brothers, Sidney Burgess, Zan Burgess, and Guy Burgess; and sisters, Martha Dean, Faye Ferrell, and Maudie Seacrest.

Survivors include a son, John (Kathy) Brandon of Gasville; 2 daughters, Lesa (Wendell) Jones of Star City, and Lana Gier of Katy, TX; sister, Lucille Lundry of Mammoth Springs; 9 grandchildren, John Brandon, Jr., Denise Aiello, Ron Brandon, William Jones, Jr., Richard Jones, Elesha Davis, Ashley Marrocelli, Farrah McEntire and Meghan Felchak; 17 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at Griffin Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Thomas McGriff and Bro. Johnathan McEntire officiating. Visitation was 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were William Jones, Jr., Johnathan McEntire, Jakob Dever, Vance Jones, Trenton Felchak, Adam Davis, and Christian Jones.
