4-H Poultry Chain Silent Auction Sept. 16

September 15, 2022

Phil Horton, County Extension Agent - Agriculture

Each year some of our local 4-H members enroll in the 4-H Club Poultry Chain Project. This project is designed to teach the youth recommended management practices for the family laying flock. Many Arkansas farm families who keep birds for egg production do not have adequate year-round production due to improper management practices. In order to further educate our children, the Arkansas County 4-H Foundation provides all interested 4-H members with 20 one-day-old chicks to grow out. When the birds are approximately 22 weeks old, the club member returns four of his or her best pullets to show and sell at the Arkansas County Fair. The money from the sale is used to buy chicks for the 4-H’ers the following year.

Our auction this year will be a Silent Auction held in the barn area at the Arkansas County Fairgrounds. The auction will be held one day only, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, and closing at 4:00 p.m. Bid sheets will be attached near the cages. Winning bidders will be notified and may pick up their chicks on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. (Winning bidders will be responsible for the care of the chicks once the auction closes)

We understand that everyone has a busy schedule this time of year and this is the main reason for the Silent Auction. With your support, we will be able to continue financing this beneficial project for our youth. We look forward to seeing or hearing from you.
