Mayor Black Declares Emergency for DeWitt

April 13, 2020

From the Mayor's office:

April 13, 2020

In order to protect our businesses, help our first responders, city workers and others during cleanup, I have declared an emergency to exist in the city of DeWitt. The storm last night knocked out all power. I don't now when we will get it back. There are a lot of downed power lines and trees. Most streets are open, but some remain blocked because it is unsafe for us to clear them until the power company repairs the lines.

The mayor's office and the recycling station will be closed until the power is restored. If you have an emergency, please call the police department and they can get in touch with the appropriate official. Garbage pickup will remain the same until further notice.

Beginning at 9:00 p.m. Monday night, April 13, 2020, unless you are involved in helping clean up, checking on a relative or neighbor, involved in an emergency or going to work, please stay off our city streets from the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. until the power comes back on.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Jimmy Black, Mayor
