Lloyd Mark Berry

March 20, 2024

Lloyd Mark Berry, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Bayou Meto, Arkansas on Sunday, March 17, 2024. He is survived by his girlfriend, Susan Coit, his son, Jason Berry (Marta); daughters, Angela Long (Kevin) and Jane Stubbs (Jon); and grandchildren, Molly Long, Emily Long, Betsy Offutt (Cameron), Susannah Stubbs, and Samuel Stubbs along with a multitude of nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Dixon; his parents, Lloyd and Eleanor Berry; brothers, Marion and Rusty Berry; and sister, Dorothy Spratlin.

Mark was born on September 22, 1944, in Stuttgart and lived most of his adult life in the Bayou Meto Community. He was a rice and soybean farmer, continuing an almost century long family legacy. An avid hunter, he was one of the earliest members of the Red Bluff Hunting Club. He even instilled an appreciation for wildlife in his non-hunting family members with annual elk viewing trips to Ponca, Arkansas. A lifelong member of Bayou Meto Methodist Church and a volunteer with the One Horse Fire Department, Mark thoroughly enjoyed hosting his community at his farm shop for a Fourth of July celebration. He also served as an agent and board member for the Farmers Protective Insurance Company.

Described on numerous occasions as “the nicest man I ever met,” Mark’s generosity blessed not only his family, but countless other individuals and organizations. He was an exceptional story teller with an incredible memory for details about family life and farm history. Known affectionately as “Poopaw”, Mark never missed an opportunity to tell his kids and grandkids how proud he was of them. With God’s help, he battled cancer and won three times in a span of about 13 years. Even as his body grew weary, his sense of humor lightened the hardest moments for his loved ones.

Funeral services were March 19 at Bayou Meto Methodist Church with burial in Bayou Meto Cemetery.
